My favorite snack at the moment is a green apple (Organic when the budget allows) and sunflower seed butter. This snack is something that is quick and easy to grab and is delicious. Why not use peanut butter? Well firstly, peanuts are a legume and if you are a PALEO person, you don't do legumes. Also, many people have peanut allergies and some claim that peanuts are part of the GMO foods which are best avoided. So whatever your reason is to considering making the switch, let me just say that once you get used to it, you don't even miss those peanuts! Sunflower seeds are lower in calories when comparable to the same amount of peanut butter, and less saturated fat. Sunflower seed butter has more fiber than peanut butter and believe it or not, slightly more protein when comparing the butters spoon for spoon.
Rather than re-invent the wheel, here is a link to "Tessa the Domestic Diva"'s link on how to make your own home made sunflower seed butter. It is cheaper to make your own by far and it is also a cheaper option if you like almond butter.
"Nuts to You Organic Sunflower Seed Butter" is the brand I use, and I love it! But I have been known to whip up my own batch from time to time.
Why not give it a try?
